Getting Started with your Treo

This page contains information for users who are just getting started with their Treos.

What is a Treo?

As the Treo article states, "The Treo is a smartphone made by Palm. There are several models of Treos available today." The word "Treo" is meant to convey that the Treo excels at being a convergence device in that it does three things remarkably well: Personal Information Management, act as a phone, and send and retrieve email. In addition to this trio of major features, a Treo can also edit Microsoft Office Documents, view PDFs, IM, text message, play games, play Mp3 audio, show Video on the Go, take photos, and more.

Treo Models

There are several different types of Treos, the most recent (as of January 2007) are the Treo 750 from Cingular and running 3G, Treo 680 also from Cingular but on GSM, and Treo 750v. The 750, 750v Vodafone, and the 680 are all slimmer Treos without the external antenna.

Before that were the Treo 700p and the Treo 700w/wx. The 'p' and 'w' signify the difference in operating systems between PalmOS and, available for the first time, Windows Mobile OS. All previous versions of the Treo are PalmOS only. The Treo 700p and Treo 700w/wx phones are CDMA-only. The 700p is only available on Sprint and Verizon and the 700w is only available on Verizon. GSM cell users (such as Cingular and T-Mobile) can still use the Treo 650. For a more complete explanation of the differences between the Treo models, check out Treo Comparison.
