How do I use Graffiti on my Treo

A: PalmOS Treos

The Treo by default does not include Graffiti support. You are encouraged to use the built in Keyboard.

However, you can download a free application called Graffiti Anywhere. It allows you to setup a method for activating, such as pressing or holding one of the 4 main application buttons. Another option for activation is tapping one of the corners of the screen. Grafitti Anywhere by default supports Grafitti 2 only. One can enable Graffiti 1 support by using these instructions and files.

Graffiti shortcuts are still available; press {S Alt Up Up Center} to get the shortcut symbol, and then the shortcut letters, as usual. The standard ds (date stamp) shortcut is available, along with any defined on another Palm and imported in the Graffitti Shortcuts.pdb database. Unfortunately, there is no way to edit shortcuts on a Treo.

A: Treo 700w/wx

The Treo 700w has an icon in the center-bottom of the screen in any text-capable application. Tapping this icon will usually bring up the on-screen keyboard. However, once the keyboard is up, you can tap the small arrow next to the icon for a pop-up menu that will give you other text-entering options. Graffiti is a PalmOS feature, but Windows Mobile has a feature called Block Recognizer that is very similar. It also has Letter Recognizer, which is much closer to actual handwriting recognition.
