How do I Put a Number in Speed Dial

Overview

If you're like me, you want to be able to call someone quickly. Speed Dial sure is the fast way to accomplish this. I'd rather just have to press one button to make a call anyday than have to remember a number or look it up in Contacts. We'll look at how to set up your Speed Dial on a couple of Palm OS Treos here. The instructions are per the Palm User Guides that came with the Treos I have.

Creating a speed dial favorite button

  • Press Phone
  • Select the Favorites tab
  • Press Menu
  • Select New Favorite on the Record menu
  • Enter a label for the favorite:

If the entry is for an existing contact, you can select Lookup. Start entering the contact's last name, and select the contact when it appears int eh list.

If the entry is for a new contact, enter the label, press Down, and then enter the number.

  • (Optional) Enter a Quick Key

A Quick Key is a letter that you can press and hold to activate a favorite from the Phone app.

  • (Optional) Select More, and then select advanced options:
  • Extra Digits: Defines addtional digits to dial, such as a password or extenstion.
  • Dial Extra Digits Automatically: Dials predifined extra digits immediately after dialing the phone number, when checked.
  • Select OK

  • Press Phone/Send
  • Use the 5-way navigator to access Favorites
  • Select a blank button
  • Select the Types pick list and select Speed Dial
  • Enter a label for the favorite: Follow the directions in the above Treo 680 section
  • (Optional) Enter a Quick Key. When you're in the Phone app, you can press and hold the Quick Key to instantly open the favorites.
  • (Optional) Select the Ringtone pick list and select a special ringtone for incoming calls from the contact.
  • (Optional) Select More, and select advanced options: Follow the directions in the above Treo 680 section
  • Select OK
