Types of Cases

  • Form-Fit Cases
    • These cases are generally made out of leather and are designed to fit on the Treo itself. They are fairly thin, offer moderate protection, and often come with a belt clip.
  • Flip-Lid Cases
    • Flip-Lid cases are similar to Form-fit cases in that they fit on the Treo itself, are fairly thin, and often come with a belt clip. They differ in that they have a flap that closes securely over the front of the Treo and then flips back for use. They also offer moerate protection.
  • Organizer Cases
    • Organizer cases come in both pouch and flip-lid styles. Their primary feature is that they have slots for a few credit cards or some cash.
  • Pouch Case (Side)
    • Pouch cases hold a Treo but do not fit on the Treo itself. Rather the Treo slips into the pouch case -- which is typically attached to a belt. Side cases are often preferred because they offer a lower profile when sitting and standing.
  • Pouch Case (Top)
    • Top pouch cases are simply top-loading pouch cases that usually remain vertical if worn on the belt.
  • Holsters
    • Holsters are plastic clips that the Treo "locks" into on the belt, then is released by pressing a tab on the case.
  • Clear Cases
    • Clear Cases are hard plastic cases, generally transluscent or clear, that fit on the Treo itself very closely. They sometimes are very thin and other times slightly thicker but with a belt clip.
  • Metal Cases
    • Metal cases are generally designed to fit on the Treo itself and feature a door that can be opened to access the major functions of the Treo. They offer relatively strong protection.
  • Skin Cases
    • Skin cases are rubber-like cases (though the materials are not usually rubbor or silicone but a non-allergenic synthetic material) that fit verly closely to the Treo. These cases are very 'grippy' and offer moderate to strong protection. They come in versions with or without belt clips and sometimes with specialized holsters.
  • Weather Resistant Cases
    • Weather resistant cases are designed to protect the Treo from the elements. This protection occasionally comes at the expense of ease of use, but in a pinch there's no substitute.
  • Headset Cases
  • Belt Clips
    • There are a few different types of belt clips, follow this link for details.

Issues to consider when choosing a case

Will it stay in the case?

You will need to evaluate the most important thing about a case. Will it stay in the case? My first case was a top pouch case. I kept having issues with the antenna of my Treo getting caught on objects and getting pulled out of the case. This ended with my first Treo getting crushed.

My second case was a Vaja T65 which I love and did solve the problem... until recently. The Vaja, over time, has streched enough for my phone to slip out. I solve this problem with some egrips and once applied firmly kept my Treo in it's case.
