Calling Plans
Bell Mobility has special calling plans for EVDO access at http://www.bell.ca/shopping/en_CA_ON/PrsShpWls_RtpIRPList.page?wlcs_catalog_category_id=TreoPocketPCRatePlans . The data plans are quite expensive, and they will not allow you to use their less expensive 1X network plans.
Users who travel frequently or call your counterparts in areas like the USA these plans should be considered:

Activating a Phone
700p
Bell really wants you to go to their store and charge you $15 to activate your phone. You might be able to do it yourself or talk them into helping you with it on the phone, but it is sort of hit or miss.
You will need to know the lock code for your telephone. (MSL - Master Subsidy Lock). Some Bell people are willing to give this out, and there may be ways to get this using bitpim (http://www.bitpim.org).
Then you will want to go to the phone dialer of the palm, and enter
#*#XXXXXX
Where the X's are replaced by the correct MSL.
Then select Dial.
You will see a screen titled Activating Your Phone, if you entered everything correctly.
Then you will need to select Edit (in the lower left hand corner of the screen) and then enter your valid Bell Mobile Phone (10 digits) number in the field called Mobile Number. You will also put the same number under MSID. For Home SID and Nome NID, these numbers did not need to be modified in my case.
- NOTE
- I believe these settings are sometimes used for identifying your home location to the network for tracking roaming. I am not sure if Bell uses this data at all. The numbers in my phone (in Toronto) were 16420 and 65535 .
Select Save when you are finished. Assuming you had the correct MSL, your phone is now on the Bell Network.
It won't do anything, of course, until you talk Bell into linking your ESN to your Bell Account. Otherwise, every time you dial a number you will just get a message from Bell welcoming you to the network and telling you to call them for more information. You may have to go to a service counter at a Bell store to get this done. They probably will not charge you since your phone is already activated...
